Lucky Baby, Luckier Family

Lucky Baby.  Born into an even luckier family. Nine months of anticipation…we were so ready. She arrived on her due date, with her paternal and maternal grandmothers surrounding her with a love that was literally palpable by the time her grandfather and I arrived.  She’s perfect.  She’s pink. She’s the antithesis of cuddly. Even howling, she’s precious and everything this family has dreamed of.

We are a blended family.  Ethnicities are different but  that hasn’t affected our shared love, affection, and laughter.  Our “togetherness” was tested and strengthened when her maternal grandmother…a healthy 60 yr. old suffered a massive stroke in the 1st trimester of her daughters pregnancy.  Never in my lifetime, have I witnesses a family come together like they did.  I believe as we all do, that just the expectation of this baby’s arrival motivated her “Lola” to overcome nearly every obstacle the numerous medical specialists prepared her family for.

Drs. predicted she most likely would not walk, talk, or possibly even recognize family.  Never underestimate the power of a 1st time grandmother.  In the last seven months we witnessed a miracle.  She’s walking (with the aid of a walker), talking, and recognizes all of her huge and adoring family.  With total joy, I was blessed to witness 1st time  ”Lola” hold her brand new granddaughter, surrounded by a loving family with a smile that we had all worried we would never see again.

Lucky baby, luckier family.

What a living doll! And I love it when they howl. It shows they are ready to take on the world. And being grandparents, we can leave when our ears get tired!
