She was my 1st grandchild. I tried them all on for size before she was born. Granny, Grams, Nana, you name it. I had the books, I read the articles. I carefully thought it out.
She would have 2 great grandmothers, 2 grandmothers and a step-grandmother. I didn’t want to confuse her too much, so I chose Grammy. It made no difference. Her parents called me Grammy, her aunt called me Grammy, and I called me Grammy. She had just started to talk, and my daughter pointed to a framed picture of me in her nursery and said “who is that?”
She immediately responded: “Mimi”.
DONE. PERIOD.
That was in 2005. Many yrs, and 2 more beautiful grandchildren later, that’s who I’ve become.

I love it! I just found out July 24 that I am going to be a grandmother for the first time! I am so excited. I have chosen the name Gramma, but like you, whatever the child calls me will be just fine.
My 4 y.o. granddaughter calls me “Mimi”, too!! I also wanted a “different” type of grandmother name so there would be no confusion, as she also has 2 grandmothers & 2 great-grandmothers. It was her Daddy, my son-in-law, who helped choose “Mimi”, & I LOVE IT!!
I love the name too. Thanks so much for sharing!
