I received this picture of my granddaughter T, via my cell phone with the caption “Mosquito Bite”!! OK, just kill me now….I hate it when my daughter does this to me…This is when “mommy crazy” turns into high gear. WHY would a mosquito, bite that porcelain skinned angel? AAAAGGGHHH! I do love how she managed to do her “so pitiful mopey face” while licking her popsicle.
Researching bug repellents for kids was an adventure. Some of the posts showing up in the top search results were from 1999!
I found a website from the group Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). I also went to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a comprehensive website that allows you to search which product you’re interested in checking, and which ingredient. I keep hearing alot about a DEET alternative ingredient called picaridin that was mentioned often in regard to safe natural products. I got more information from my sister Kathy, a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in holistic medicine. She told me about these DEET-free wrist bands by Bug Chaser that have all natural products. They seem to be getting good reviews. I’ve listed a few products including the wristbands below.
