Baby Boomer Rock Stars Need Their Own Sound Check

I was driving alone the other day when a new tune by a “Senior” Rock Star came on the radio.  By “senior” I mean like when the word is used in front of “citizen.”  It was AWFUL.  Not the song so much, but his voice.  I’m not saying all Rock Stars nearing the big 7-0 should hang it up (Tony Bennett’s doing fine) I’m just saying someone needs to take into consideration the general public’s lack of power regarding who’s  voice is being blasted over our airwaves.

Wincing through his missed keys and the occasional bursts of “chicken squeak”  his voice projected every few bars got me thinking…  Who’d have the kahonas to tell an aging Rock Star that their voice now sounds like crap?  The quality of some of those voices, once awesome….are now fleeting.  It’s similar to what’s happened to the thick heads of hair, and six pack abs.  It’s reality people, and it’s not just the men.

Is it about Baby Boomer Rock Stars trying to retain their glory days for a few extra bucks? I guess they’re as worried about finances in retirement as the rest of us are.  I just wish they were as worried about our ear drums.

Most professionals, when reaching their mid 60’s are regulated in some capacity.  Airline pilots have age requirements, Drs. have licensing and educational requirements…even Realtors have to maintain a license to keep current on laws and regulations.

“Will You Still Need Me, Will You Still Please Me, When I’m 64?”  I’m no longer pleased people.

Let’s nominate a Baby Boomer Advisory Board for aging Rock Stars vocal quality.  It’s starting to depress me.
